Happy...Happy!

It was signed and it was approved. Therefore it's official! I got my leave and I'm going back to Malaysia by next month. They hand over the hard copy of my leave application form a few days ago and I was surprised that it was approved since I heard there are several people that got delayed for their leaves as one of our project was near to completion. There are 2 ongoing projects that will be starting soon for us and I took advantage of the current project that was nearly complete to apply for my leave because I have a feeling that I may not be going back for my next leave since it will be the peak of my other 2 projects.

So physically I am still here in Qatar but my mind is already at Malaysia. Hehe... It is something that I have been looking forward to. Anyway, there is only less than a month from my leave and I hope that everything goes fine. We got a new scanner and therefore it speed things for scanning documents. Furthermore the scanner is the heavy duty and fast kind of scanner. Whoa... Never seen one before but now I've seen one.

As we are nearing the end on one of the projects, many people start to be demobilized and leave the projects but for documentation, there's still a lot of works to do. I hope that everything will be smooth but still I won't deny that there will be hiccups on the way to completion because that is normal in working life. There will always be obstacle and that is when the challenge starts. Anyway for those who knew me and living in Malaysia, I'm coming home everyone! See you next month in Malaysia! :)

Lucky day

One day me and Fauzan was having a breakfast early morning at the mess hall and we met Fauzan's friend named Harry from Indonesia. He worked at the same project with us but from a different company as well as position. After having our breakfast, he asked for a favor from Fauzan to go to Doha with him today since every Friday we have our off and we can go to the city as we wish but the disadvantages of going on this day is where the shops will only opens at 3pm. I don't know why but it's been like that since before.

Okay people, this is a bit of course but I'll explain a little bit about 'Friday' here in Doha. Every Friday, we have our break as I mentioned earlier and we are free to do whatever and go wherever we please but there's a downside on that current day. Although we can go out to Doha on Friday, we are restricted to go to certain places in Doha such as Old Souq and City Center. Why? One of the reason that was told to me was it's Family Day and it's only for families and the local people who are allowed to go to those places. Say what?! Since when does a shopping complex has boundaries? Well, they must have a reason why they're doing that. As for Old Souq, there will be polices guarding a certain perimeters and we aren't allowed to trespass these perimeters or we will be chased off by them (not to forget in a rude manner...). The reason was again, it's for the Family Day (I can't understand why! a mystery indeed...).

Therefore we are bounded only at Souq (it's at another place but I'm not sure the exact name), where you can shop for cheap things. On Friday, it will be packed with workers mainly from Indians and Philippines. There are other countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and etc but they're in the minorities. All of them are from different projects. Anyway, although we are allowed to go there, the shops will open after 3pm. So we've wasted our day from morning to evening just to wait for the shop to open at 3pm (again folks, I don't even know why they opened at 3pm!)

Anyway back to my real story (that was long! at last...), after doing some discussion, Fauzan agreed to accompany him as he just explained that he's going back to Indonesia the next day at 2am therefore he doesn't have much time. Because of the time constraint and the limitations of places in Doha, they agreed to depart to Doha at 3.30pm. Everything went well until he knocked at my door at 2.30pm...

"Knock, knock!", there was a knock on my door. I was currently busy talking to my fiancee back in Malaysia so I have to postpone the call with her as there was someone at the door. I was expecting Harry and it was indeed him since the time shows 2.30pm and he looked prepare to depart for Doha. But I noticed something was wrong when he asked me to go to Fauzan's room for something. As I had guessed, Fauzan just told him that he can't go to Doha at the very last minute and he asked me to go accompany Harry to Doha. What the heck?! I had no plans on going anywhere because I want to spent  my time with my fiancee! (Heheh!) Darn! I could easily refuse the request as it had nothing to do with me because Fauzan was the one who made that deal but then, I felt pity for him because he wanted to buy a Sejadah (Praying Mat) for his future wife before he went back to Indonesia. Furthermore he was here only for 10days. With a heavy heart, I prepared myself for the journey. Hmm...

Later on, I called Danny where he's a friend of mine working at another project in Doha and invite him out to stroll around the city. He accepted the offer and things weren't that bad after all if he's around because he's funny and you won't get bored when he's around. When we were at Doha, we met Danny at the usual place and we start to search for Harry's things. So we found the praying mat and he bought several but it's a pity that he can't find any shirts with the label "DOHA" or any souvenirs that significantly shows that it's a trademark from Doha. He wanted to buy it badly as it will be a remembrance for him when he's back at Indonesia as well as a gift for his family at home.

After doing some shopping with him, the three of us went to grab some grubs before we head back to the camp. We stopped by at an Indonesian restaurant (because everywhere else was full!) but the place was indeed quite homey. I took advantage on being there at the restaurant where I fulfilled my promise with Danny where I should had an open table which means I will be treating him. Since Harry was there, he was lucky to be treated by me. We ordered some foods and the owner of the restaurant suddenly asked whether Harry is holding praying mats in his bags. Harry acknowledged it and the owner asked again whether I'm a Muslim (that question again? Haha...refer to my previous post, here). I acknowledged that I am a Muslim and then to my surprise, she took out 2 praying mats for each of us! Whoa! I was surprised as I thought she was selling it to us and I would've bought it if she did sell it to us. The Sejadah was big and the material was comfortable. Refer to the photos below on how it looks like.

Quite nice eh? Haha.. From Western Union!

I guess it was a charity by some bank as I saw she has a bag of praying mats (and the logo of Western Union! obviously!). The point is, I was surprised by the events that happened to me that day because even at a restaurant the owner of the restaurant can still do her Ibadah to Allah. It was indeed my lucky day where if I have refused to go out on that day, I may not received such unexpected gifts. So praise to Allah for the generosity that Allah has given to me. Alhamdulillah... On the other hand, Danny was asked also by the owner whether he's a Muslim too! In the end,the owner apologizes to Danny as she can't give the gifts to him. Danny was all good.

It was unexpected and it was also the 1st time that I ever encounter something like this. If only we can spread out the kindness and generosity for the needy one, we will feel good because we do good deeds because of Allah. If you give a portion of what you have to the needy, Allah will surely return the rewards to you more than what you gave to the needy. Indeed it was a lucky day for me because it was a small help with unexpected return. SubhanAllah...

Friday the 13th! Muahahahaha…

Hey there everyone! What are the odds that you’ll get the 13th on Friday, any month or any year? Well, today is the day! I’m not that superstitious or all but this superstition has been around for quite sometime where people said that on the 13th of Friday you’ll have bad luck and I don’t mean just any bad luck but a SUPER BAD A** bad luck.Haha...

Here are some explaination of what it is all about. An article from a website, “Like many human beliefs, the fear of Friday the 13th (known as paraskevidekatriaphobia) isn't exactly grounded in scientific logic. But the really strange thing is that most of the people who believe the day is unlucky offer no explanation at all, logical or illogical. As with most superstitions, people fear Friday the 13th for its own sake, without any need for background information.” – howstuffworks.com

Here’s also another article from another website with the title ‘Why Friday The 13th Is Unlucky’, “The sixth day of the week and the number 13 both have foreboding reputations said to date from ancient times, and their inevitable conjunction from one to three times a year (there happen to be three such occurrences in 2009, two of them right in a row) portends more misfortune than some credulous minds can bear. According to experts it's the most widespread superstition in the United States today. Some people won't go to work on Friday the 13th; some won't eat in restaurants; many wouldn't think of setting a wedding on the date.” – about.com

Whoa… That is one weird superstitious. You can click on the referral to go to the website straight away and read more about it. Anyway, there are more references if you want to search on the web by using a search engine. You can click here where I ‘googled’ it. The following table (in months) have a Friday the 13th:

So there’s the table just in case you wanted to do some planning and avoid those dates. (Are you serious?) Well, what caught my attention was that the science term for it, paraskevidekatriaphobia, a word derived from the concatenation of the Greek words Paraskeví (meaning Friday), and dekatreís (meaning thirteen), attached to phobía (meaning fear). How do you say that?! Anyway, from my point of view it’s alright to be superstitious at times because it’s just part of us but don’t be too superstitious as it will control your life in believing too much of the non-existence. You get me? Till my next post, take care now.

P.S: What? You hit something on your head? Ah... It has started... It's coming for you!

Oh... my... GOSH!

I was surfing around the net when I stumbled upon this video on YouTube. It's the latest super car by Lamborghini called Lamborghini Reventón. Here's the ad about the car. It's very bold, aggressive and its just too much too handle! Ouch!

For those of you who can't really see the car clearly, here are some of the photos on how it looks like. Well, I'm not a car enthusiasts but I do have my particular interests. :)

This is how it looks like live on an auto show! It is indeed a jaw dropping awe! (Oh...baby!) You miss daddy? Daddy misses you too but daddy has only RM20 in his pocket right now, so you just be good there while daddy look for more then daddy can pick you up.

Sandstorm!

Me and my friend was chatting over about how we can take over the site here for our devilish ambition when suddenly he said "Sandstorm!". I thought he was joking as we said that we will take the place by storm where we were talking how to take the place as hostage but when I went outside, I was surprised that there was a big thunderstorm and just like the mist yesterday, it was nearly the same where it just covered the whole site in a blanket of sand! These are few snapshots that I managed to capture. I can't capture anymore since the wind was so strong and it gets into my eyes. Ouch!

Here are some shots from my friend with his camera.

Allah has ways in showing who's in control in this world no matter how much we claim that this world we live in is ours. SubhanAllah...

I can't see anything! :P

Yesterday, I was preparing myself for work and as I was about to leave my block... Woah! To my surprise, there was a mist! I mean a very thick mist was surrounding the camp site! The visibility was very bad as I can only see only a few meters in front of me. I wore my head cap as it protects my head from the cold which gave me headache and fever because of the sudden change in temperature. (Experienced it before!)

So I went to work a little bit late than usual as the driver has to drove the bus a little slower because of the limited visibility. All cars turned on their emergency signals to warn the other vehicles of their present on the road. Other than that, the road was slippery too from the mist that covered the road. I can feel the cold piercing through my skin and I expect the temperature would be around 6-7 degrees Celsius. Here are the photos that I managed to capture.

The view at my workplace. It's hard to see anything and it's freezing too!

Anyway, these are the only photos I manged to capture because there's a sign stated that "STRICTLY NO PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED!". So for the sake of blogging, I'm sacrificing myself here! Gulp! ~Scary.

P.S: One more time, Doha seizes to amaze me again. Whoa...

It's raining... What?!

Maybe I'm the last person on earth to know about this but it's raining here in Doha! Of course I'm surprised! Well, I thought that it's like middle east, in the middle of the desert and sunny so it's impossible to have rain in the middle of the desert. Okay, not impossible but it's like 1:1000 chances that it's going to rain. I think that '1' is now I guess? Anyway, on my previous blog I did mentioned that I was wrong on my perception about how hot Doha was; as it was freezing cold here in Doha and now it rains. What more surprises does this place holds for me? Hmm... I wonder.

Cool drink

This is how Pepsi in Doha looks like. I like the red and blue color blended in the middle of the can. Kinda unique. :) (No, I am not promoting Pepsi in any way.)

The color blend looks really nice. In arab they sound like 'Bibsi'. :)

Say what?

Alright... Alright... I get this a lot where people got me mixed up with some other races like Chinese, Caucasian, or mix Malay something. Not to say I'm trying to make it an issue but do I really differ from a malay? (Yea, yea! Go ahead and puke or get a plastic bag ready before you continue!)

HOLD ON!
"Alright, before I continue to write about this topic, I would like to say that whatever that I express in this particular topic has nothing to do in discriminating, looking down or talking bad about any races, religion or nationality. I'm just expressing based on the experience that I've been through and it has nothing to do with anyone else but me, myself and I. So to anyone who's reading this, chill aight? If it does offend you, drop me a comment and we'll discuss about it on which part that I could filter. :)"

So...where was I? Ah... yes! Through out my life, I have always been mistakenly assume by people that I am some other race but a Malay. It's like out of 20, only 2 might get it right (with full investigation and curiosity that is!). Perhaps it's because of my name (what's my name?)? My looks(puke, more puke!)? My english accent (you must be thinking "I'm gonna DIE reading this!")? Or with my surrounding friends? Yeah, I do have plenty of Chinese friends during my uni life and perhaps that could be the one of the reason why the mistakes occur. Even though I have explained to them that I was a Malay, they would still assume that I'm a mixed (yeah, mixed of my mum and dad!). Nevertheless, the mistakes would also imply to my religion where they would think that I am any other religion but Muslim (am I that different?!). My experience from traveling places, some people would be surprise that I went to the mosque. They would ask me again and again about my religion but still it's hard for them to believe it. Haha! Hmm... My parents looks like a Malay (I think...). Weird...

Currently at Qatar, most people assume that I am from Philippine! Say what? Do I really look like one? Now I am confused about myself. From race, religion and now it's my nationality? Haha! It's kind of fun to hear people's assumption of who you are as it shows that you can be anybody that they might think. Anyway, I'm still proud of being who I am and grateful too. Why be someone else if you can be yourself where there's no one else that looks like you and therefore that makes you unique. Hey...perhaps I can even be anyone I want like the movie 'Pretender'! Watch out everyone... :)

International Computer Repair?

For these past few days, my room has become an International Computer Repair Center as people from various countries came to my room to repair their laptop. Haha! Nice term... "International Computer Repair Center" It sound as if my place has services world wide! Anyway, it all started last 2 weeks when 1 of my friend that I just knew from Indonesia came to my room seeking for some help regarding about computers. It seems I was promoted by my colleagues that I have the skills and knowledge to repair computer hardware and software (so much for my low profile). So I did help him in saving his misery about computers and it was rather worthed as I was paid QR100. Since then on, a few more from India, Philippine and Singapore came to my room for more repairs. I was glad to help as I could understand where the nearest computer repair shop was 90km away and it is at the city of Doha.

Other than that, I was also doing some computer consultation to them in buying their optimal computer hardware that suits best for their needs. It wasn't new for me though as I have done this since I was in university and 'it' always follows me around. When I'm studying, when I'm on holiday at home, when I am traveling and now; even when I'm at oversea! I'm not trying to say it's a burden or so, but instead I was happy that I can contribute my skills not only from local but anywhere else to anyone who needs it.

Therefore, I can conclude that if you have the appropriate skills, its better to contribute it to the community rather than keep it to yourself or you only use it for work as there are so much that you can do. Other than that, for the rumors of people saying that IT has a low market, I disagree with that as from my story here I can say that it's an essential service if you can market yourself as well as giving the right service that the community wants. Furthermore, 85% of the world uses computers but if you're talking about professional works, that's a different story. So the only thing left is for you to find out what 'they' want, find opportunities and do something about it... Try it yourself! I hope it inspires you in increasing your personal skills. Good luck!

What photos?

Everyone been asking me to put photos on my blog here. What kind of photos should I show? Hm... (no guys, no wierd-wierd photos aight? I know what you're thinking!) We'll sort that one out later...

~Sleepy...

I don't know why but for the past few days I've been very sleepy in the office. Some of my friends said that I may be exhausted, I might be sleeping late and some even says that I may be into my work too much. I do sleep right on time and I delegate my work well so what gives? Anyway, whatever it is perhaps I'm a little exhausted and  it could be because of my work schedule. I just realize about it a few weeks ago where I have ONLY 3 hours for myself everyday. What does it mean?

"What do you want? Uh..."

Let's do the math. I woke up at 4am everyday since I need to have my Subuh prayer at 5am and my breakfast at 5.15am and the bus will leave at 6pm. So from 4am-6am is 2 hours. My working hours is 12 hours (6am-6pm) and although there is a 1 and a half hour break in the afternoon, for me it's still not a resting time. After working hours, I head back and I have my dinner until 7pm so, 6pm - 7pm = 1 hour. After that is my time to rest from 7pm onwards. Cool? Well I need to sleep at least 6 hours a day and no less than that. So if I woke up at 4am and I need 6 hours of sleep, therefore I need to sleep at 10pm! In math it'll look like this (for the timing calculation, I don't have to go in details about it as it's all approximation);

Wake up + breakfast + waiting for bus = 2 hours (4am-6am)
Working hours = 12 hours (6am-6pm)
Dinner = 1 hour (6pm-7pm)
Sleep = 6 hours (10pm-4am)
1 day = 24 hours

Therefore,
24 - (2 + 12 + 1 + 6) = 3 hours!

As you can see, I have only 3 hours daily for my leisure time and the rest goes for my work. No wonder I am this sleepy! Gosh! But still, I do have my rests on Friday and it's mostly used by my friend to come over and sometimes for me to go to Doha to buy my necessity. Argh! I need more rests... I did explained the math to several of my friends and I have quite a response. Some was surprise as they never thought of it and some says that it's normal for the place where I am working. I guess it's just me who need to get use of this robotic looping lifestyle. What do you think? Do share your thoughts. ~Sigh...

I got ripped off!

Last night I went to the commissary to buy myself some pistachio peanut as I crave for one since my friend offered me some during office hours. For those who didn't realize this but Pistachio peanut is a very expensive peanut in Malaysia where a small bag, with 250g can cost nearly RM20 although it's expensive, the taste is superb. I bought some from the commisary and it cost me around QR15 for a packet and QR20-QR24 for the one in cans. There's a rumor that at Souq (a name of a place at Doha) which is like a market, sold pistachio peanuts at a cheap price. I will go to Souq tomorrow (5th February) to verify the rumor.

Eh?! Wrong topic! :P

As I were saying (I'm a little off course, sorry!), I went to the commissary to buy peanuts with a soft drink and that is where something caught my attention... Short Pants! Wow, they sell those here? Lucky me! I need it since I have only 1 short pants. I opened the packaging and it was made in China and looks more like a Bermuda pants. It was fair for a price of QR10.50 each, I've bought 2 pairs. Later on, I went back to my room anxiously to try my new pants as I feel more comfortable in short pants but to my surprise, it was a little tight! Eh? I've bought 'XXL' size! Ok, maybe it was new and perhaps a few washing might do the trick. So bearing with the tight feeling, I went to my mini fridge to get a drink and then 'CRAAAACCCCK!!!'. What the ****?! My new pants was torn when I bent down to reach for my drink! Yep, you guessed it. It was the middle part. Although I was dissapointed, I was calm as I realized that it was a cheap pants and made from China (what do you expect?). So, I was ripped off. Next time I'll just buy a good one at Doha. Lesson learned! Cheaps are good but sometimes, not even worth buying in some cases. Yea I really got 'RIPPED'! :)

Mess hall? No!

You do not want to eat at the mess hall during lunch hour! I had a bad experience today when I went for lunch at the mess hall. It was a very long queue and I spent nearly 11 minutes just to be in line before taking my meal. Why it's such a big deal? Our lunch time is 11.30pm and I have to be at the bus station at 11.15pm. It takes around 30 minutes to go to the mess hall at my camp site so it's around 12pm. After that you have less than half an hour to eat because the bus leaves for the office at 12.30pm sharp. When i say sharp, I mean PRECISE! So 11 minutes of waiting leaves me less than 20 minutes to eat and I have to rush my meal! Gosh...It was good enough that I didn't puke at the mess hall just to stuff and digest the food that I've eaten.

The most precious thing in Doha!

Despite the rush and all, the menu was fairly pleasant where I ate a beef burger, fries, sweet bbq chicken, fried rice (weird taste!) and fried fish fillet. It was nice and the best part is KIMBALL chilli sauce! Why? It's because the sauce are seldom being eaten by the people here and you can taste the feeling 'Malaysia', a taste that you recognise. Other than that they said it taste hot or looks hot. Well what I can say since the label of Kimball displayed a big red chilli. Therefore who wouldn't have that kind of perception? Haha...Anyway, if you want to come to Doha and going to have your meal at KFC, you better buy 1 Kimball chilli sauce. They don't have Kimball chilli sauce there and we all know that KFC chicken taste better with Kimball chilli sauce. That's the best sauce money can buy. Something I learned while working here in Doha, Qatar. :)

Freezing!

Yesterday I went back from work and it was freezing! The temperature drops down to 7 degrees and strong winds with a sharp piercing feeling through my skin is making it even worse. I was a little warm though with my snow cap and glove that I've bought the first time I came here. I didn't expect before coming here that it would be this cold because I was thinking that in the middle east it is quite hot since it's in the desert. I knew I was dead wrong when I exit the airplane and the 1st gust of wind that enter the plane was a cold one. I was warned before about the condition here but I guess I took it lightly. I did not manage to capture a photo during the temperature drops at 7 degrees as I forgot to bring my camera but I manage to capture when it was below 10 degrees Celsius.

Whoa! 9 degrees Celsius?! Cool...

On March and onwards will be warm or should I say very hot since they said that it can reach up to 50 degrees Celsius! Whoa! It's like extreme weather over here! Once it's hot, it's scalding hot and if it's cold it's freezing cold. Gosh, I hope I can cope with it. Anyway, perhaps after a few months here I could adapt myself with the extreme conditions with a few torment of sickness. Haha... I hope none of that will happen to me. Ah, please protect me Allah...Amin. :)

Getting better and better!

Thanks to Allah as I am getting better and better from my sickness since 5 days ago. It all started after I went to Doha accompanying my friend to buy his laptop. I went back quite late because the distance from Doha to my camp site is nearly 90km. I arrived at my room around 10.30pm. It was freezing as well as windy outside. I guess the weather and sleeping late at night could be the main factor for my sickness. For anyone who doesn't know about it, sleeping late can cause you to have a lower immunity on that current time. Therefore you are prone to have sickness such as flu or fever. Click here for reference.

I'm writing my blogs while working here as I'm waiting for my next wave. My work load come in waves and it could be a lot. So I'll stop for now and you'll be hearing from me next time! Later...

Welcome to my new blog!

Welcome to my OFFICIAL blog on blogspot.com! At last I've really started into blogging. I've heard a lot of blogs out there and one of the most popular is Blogger.com. Previously I prefer Windows Live as I can see it's vast functionality and integration with other Windows products such as Windows Live Messenger and many more. Other than the technology used in web-based such as AJAX (no, it's NOT a detergent) and Silverlight (no, it has NOTHING to do with Silver Surfer), it will also gives you full control and flexibility on how to manage your blog but it's a pity that I can't really express how I feel on my blog.

Anyway, for those who wants to know more about me, you can add me at my Facebook account. How to add me? What's my email? That's on your side buddy. If you're interested to be my friend then it should be easy for you to get into my social network. :)

I have started my own blog on Windows Live
before but I seldom had the time to update nor the effort to write anything. I was out of idea and yes, lazy. I hope it'll be different from now on. Therefore I will migrate my blogs from Windows live to blogspot from the history of my blog (bear with me!), the current updates and future news about myself.

I appreciate the comments given in my previous blogs on Windows Live but now, its all at blogspot. Thank you everyone for your interest in reading my blogs.

P.S: Don't forget to comment! ~Arigato Gozaimasu...
